In February and March 2022 I choose five Greek islands (Kos, Leros, Chios, Samos and Lesbos), where the new secluded and gated camps for migrants were being or had just been built, to illustrate some articles for a monographic issue of a magazine. Written and photographic reportages focused on the situation of migrant people who, after months or years long and perilous journeys from Africa and Middle Asia, get entangled in those natural fences of the Fortress Europe that are some Mediterranean islands (Greek, Italian or Spanish). Over there, migrant persons are kept for an indefinite and suspended period, waiting for their refugees status applications to be accepted or rejected. Forced to survive invisibly in the meanwhile.
